Point 3 — Desmos regression tool
What do we see?
A function whose formula is given, where the number of unknowns equals the number of coordinates given.
What do we understand?
Use the table option in Desmos, or its regression tool, to solve for the unknowns at once.
Tips & traps
Regression-tool questions are highly prone to stub errors because they often involve multiple steps.
Do not assume b or c are y-intercepts and a is a slope — they may represent something else entirely.
Read the last two lines of the question carefully before reporting your answer.
Question 1 of 8
f(x) = ax + b
For the function shown above, a, b and a > 0 are constants. If (c, 11) and (2c, 221) are points on this graph, where c is a constant, then find the value of b.
