Point 1 — Titles and Names
What do we see?
A title (biologist, chemist, runner…) followed by a name, with the options differing only in commas: Title, Name / Title, Name, / Title Name, / Title Name / Title : Name.
What do we understand?
- Ask: do I need this name to know who is being talked about? If yes → no commas (the title usually begins with the or no article). If no → commas around the name (the title usually begins with a/an).
- Punctuation at the end of the blank depends on whether what follows is essential (no comma/dash) or non-essential (comma/dash).
